Support 3D Printing at the Maison Poincaré!

The Maison Poincaré opened its doors on September 30, 2023! Located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, this mathematics museum aims to inspire young people—girls and boys alike—and especially those who are less familiar with science. With a permanent exhibition and a space for temporary exhibitions, the museum is deeply committed to welcoming as many school groups as possible and offering them engaging educational workshops.

In this spirit, the Maison Poincaré now wishes to enrich its activities by setting up a 3D printing workshop for the public.

A 3D printing workshop at the Maison Poincaré is, above all, about giving a wide audience of young visitors—whether on individual or school visits—and especially those with visual impairments, the opportunity to experience the transformation from a plan to a tangible object, which can be understood as an accumulation of planes.

It is also an opportunity to move from the abstract to the concrete and, ultimately, to make mathematical concepts—particularly geometric ones—tangible, concepts that are often intimidating in a school setting.

Moreover, such a workshop will also serve an important function for the museum itself by allowing defective or missing exhibition elements to be replaced and new ones to be created.

These pieces will enrich the museum’s collection and support the educators in developing new activities.
