At the Maison Poincaré, discover the women and men who drive research in mathematics. They will be highlighted in the INVENT and BECOME spaces.
In the INVENT space, portrait films of contemporary scientists will be shown, with the common theme of their “sensations of inventing.” This space will also feature four portraits of 20th-century figures: Alan Turing, Emmy Noether, Maryam Mirzakhani, and Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Additionally, through themes related to invention, the space will reference personalities such as Carl Friedrich Gauss, Henri Poincaré, Sophie Germain, Maryna Viazovska, and Pierre de Fermat, among others.

As a side note, these two spaces have a strong connection to Jean Perrin. The BECOME space is set up in his former office as director of the Physical Chemistry Laboratory, while the INVENT space is located in the amphitheater that bears his name, with a fresco on the back wall featuring the opening words of his book Les Atomes. Their heritage value will be preserved as part of the Maison Poincaré’s development, along with that of the tea room.
In another article, we will take you through the SHARE and BREATHE spaces to explore themes of transmission and sharing, values that inspire the research community. Stay tuned!
Throughout 2021, we will keep you updated on the progress of exhibit design and space layout.
