Supporting scientific excellence

The IHP Endowment Fund Now Supports Research!
Since March 2024, the IHP Fund has expanded its scope of action to include academic research, thanks to a generous contribution from QRT. For the first time, a research program — Random Tensors and Related Topics — received support. Following this successful first step, QRT decided to extend its funding to all programs organized at IHP in 2025. This contribution has helped ensure an optimal environment for research, the training of young scientists, and interdisciplinary exchanges.
The thematic programs at IHP are selected by the IHP Scientific Program Committee according to rigorous criteria: scientific excellence, topical relevance, pedagogical value, interdisciplinarity, and a strong commitment to gender parity and diversity. Each program, coordinated by an international scientific committee, runs for three, six, or twelve weeks, bringing together between fifty and one hundred and twenty researchers from around the world for courses, lectures, and seminars.
Nearly fifty researchers received financial support through a QRT Fellowship, awarded at the discretion of program organizers regardless of candidates’ profiles. QRT and the IHP Fund also reaffirmed their commitment to women in science by creating the QRT Welcome Package for Women in Science, awarded to selected female researchers.
In 2025, four programs were supported by the IHP Fund:
Representation Theory and Noncommutative Geometry
January 6 – April 4, 2025
This program brought together two major areas of contemporary mathematics: the representation theory of locally compact groups and noncommutative geometry through operator algebras.

Higher Rank Geometric Structures
April 14 – July 11, 2025
This program advanced the study of discrete subgroups of higher-rank Lie groups, building on the foundations of Teichmüller–Thurston theory. It was particularly beneficial for PhD students and early-career postdoctoral researchers, thanks to a high-level training program that combined geometry, dynamics, and analysis.
Dark Matter and Neutrinos
May 5 – 23, 2025
This program brought together specialists in dark matter and neutrinos in a dynamic interdisciplinary dialogue. Aligned with ongoing experimental advances in these fields, it provided a stimulating environment to identify major open questions and foster new collaborations. It also offered training for young researchers seeking to explore these topics or broaden their skill sets.

Active Matter: The Synergy Between Maths and Physics
May 26 – June 13, 2025
This program highlighted the cross-fertilization between applied mathematics and physics in the study of active matter, a rapidly growing field. It facilitated the development of new theoretical models incorporating experimental data, as well as the design of innovative mathematical tools suited to out-of-equilibrium dynamic systems. The program was structured around a training cycle, targeted workshops, and an international conference.
These four programs embody one of the historical missions of the Institut Henri Poincaré: fundamental research and the training of the next generation of scientists within an international environment of excellence. The Endowment Fund has now become an important lever in supporting the achievement of this goal.
